Pacific Women Medal at Nationals! Sunday, June 12th, in Cincinnati, Ohio at the USRowing Youth National Championships, the Pacific Rowing Club's Varsity Women's pair won the silver medal in a photo finish against the top women's pairs in the United States. Maggie Bowman-Jones and Deanna Wong posted a time of 7:48.4, beating the Essex women for second by a tenth of a second! It was a dramatic finish to a dramatic regatta, both weather and results-wise. Maggie, rowing stroke seat, stroked a superb race with her partner Deanna. Rowing a very fast first 1000 meters, our two women did their best to match the pace of Connecticut Boat Club, whose rowers raced at the Junior Worlds last year. Maggie and Deanna eventually assumed the 2nd place position by open water on the remaining field, rowing a steady, strong rate with great ratio and power. In the end, that open water advantage helped them to hold off Essex, which had a late sprint, desperately trying to make up lost distance. However, Maggie and Deanna prevailed by rowing a great course in their shell, under control, to win the silver medal. This marks the 6th straight year Pacific has sent boats to Nationals, with boats making the Grand Finals each year and four of those six years yielding medal performances:
Lastly, the Summer session is just getting started with these Pacific athletes going off to U.S. Jr. National Team camps--Selection (Worlds), High Performance (Germany), and Development (Domestic):
