DAMEON ENGBLOM

Youth Men’s Coach/ Operations Assistant - Contact Dameon

Dameon comes to us with a plethora of experience with a coaching career spanning the past 18 years and a rowing career beginning in 1997. Most recently, Dameon was an assistant coach with UC San Diego Men’s Rowing program. Dameon has also coached on the college level at University of Pennsylvania and Oregon State University. During his years at the college level he gained invaluable experience in not just coaching fast crews but also building programs

Dameon is also no stranger to juniors rowing, in particular our own southwest region. He started his coaching career with Capitol Crew in 2006 where his boats saw a lot of success. While at Capital his varsity 8 was placed top 5 in the nation all three years of his tenure, with a third place finish in 2007. The lightweight 8 was also a top 10 crew all three years. That stretch remains the best in the program’s history.

On the high school level he has also coached at Oakland Strokes and and Deerfield Academy. Fun fact: Dameon's Deerfield Men's 4+ had a nail biter of a race in 2014 against PRC's 4+ where, after only a few months of training, his boat came in 3rd to PRC which took the gold.

NICK VASQUEZ

U16 Women’s Coach - Contact Nick

Nicolas is returning for their forth year as a PRC coach and eighth year in the PRC community. they are no stranger to adversity in rowing, but from these experiences, they hope to teach their athletes how to be excellent rowers both on and off the water.

Nick’s rowing career began in 2013 as a freshman in high school. they were a scrawny little kid who could barely do a few push ups without getting winded. Thanks to some high school friends, however, they found Pacific and promptly joined the novice men. It was there that they began to excel at the sport of rowing and found themselves and their crew mates performing exceptionally well in the Novice 8+ and Freshman 8+ categories. As a varsity rower, they spent time in every kind of boat from the 8+ to the 2x and was named the most improved athlete in the 2015-2016 season.

Nick continued rowing as a college student at the University of Washington. They joined the club rowing team and became Team Captain in 2019. That year, they led many boats to success at master-level regattas as both a rower in the boat and as a student-coach in the launch. They rowed in the 8+ that won gold the 15K Otter Island Regatta in Everett, and he coached the 4x that took silver in the 1K Frostbite Regatta in Seattle.

Alongside coaching, Nick is now pursuing their Master’s Degree in Physics at San Francisco State University.

WILL AUBIN

U16/Novice Men’s Coach - Contact Will

Will started rowing his sophomore year of high school after an unremarkable football career. He went on to row for three years at Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL, and in his senior year, helped form what is now known as Capital City Rowing. After rowing in high school, he continued rowing at Emory University in Atlanta, where he rowed for four years, holding the position of team captain for his final two years on the team. At Emory, he participated in the Head of The Charles Regatta, Dad Vails, USRowing Sculling Development Camp, and ACRAs. Throughout his rowing career, Will was consistently the rower that fell just short of making the top boat in high school and college. He takes this perspective of what it feels like to fall just short of a goal and the importance of the team making top boats fast with him as a coach.

Since transitioning to the coaching side of the sport, Will has coached across many different levels, from Masters to middle school. He has recently coached at Emory University as the Novice women's coach and at Los Gatos Rowing Club as a masters and middle school coach. He is passionate about diversifying the sport and improving pathways for a boathouse to become a true community boathouse.

Outside of rowing, Will previously worked in education as both a classroom teacher and a program manager at City Year. He currently works as a project manager at Silicon Valley Community Foundation, supporting capacity and leadership development for local nonprofits. He holds a Masters of Education from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education. He looks forward to calling Pacific Rowing Club his rowing home and developing young athletes' love for the sport as the Novice men/U16 coach.
